Keynote Speeches

delsi Moleta (they/she) is a storyteller, filmmaker, educator on LGBTQIA+ issues, TEDx speaker, researcher, workshop facilitator, and award-winning creator of Unicorns - the queer space that transformed accessibility and inclusion within LGBTQIA+ nightlife.

"We all need a vision of what life can be. As queer people, we often lack public representation. Let’s work together to change that, because I believe queer joy is an idea worth spreading."

They have been in conversation with LGBTQIA+ icon Kate Moening from the acclaimed ‘The L Word’ series, hosted the Minus18 Queer Youth Formal, and been invited to introduce queer films at the Sydney Film Festival. They have presented talks on queer inclusion for a wide spectrum of organisations, from the creators of ‘Love on the Spectrum’ (Northern Pictures) to one of Australia’s leading counseling providers, Relationships Australia.

They were an Ambassador for Give Out Day Australia in both 2022 and 2023, were a finalist for Victorian LGBTI Person of the Year in 2019 and 2023, and were named in the Top 50 LGBTI Australian Leaders List according to Google.

Their film on queer femme identity, FEMME, is currently screening across film festivals in Europe and the United States and will premiere in Australia this July as part of the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival.

What have people said?

  • Delsi's recent presentation at Nillumbik Shire Council tied in perfectly with our 'Wear it Purple' day celebrations. Their insights as a former high school teacher and as an active advocate for LGBTQIA+ youth were invaluable. The way in which they shared their own story (the highs, and the lows), with humour, candour and vulnerability, struck a chord with everyone in the room - from our administrators to our operations crew.

  • The combination of delsi sharing her story and combining it with more general information and stats was really powerful and helped bring the general information to light. It helped staff to connect and see the personal side and importance of LGBTIQA+ inclusion. Our workforce is mostly new-ish to this area, and the way you spoke was accessible, funny, moving and impactful! Your talk elicited meaningful and genuine engagement from our staff, the talk sparked many conversations in the days and weeks following.
